Biographical Information[edit]

Brother of Roy Brashear, Norman "Kitty" Brashear played three games with the 1899 Louisville Colonels. He was the same age as teammate Tommy Leach and a year younger than Rube Waddell. Much of Brashear's minor league career, which ran through 1915, was spent in the PCL. He announced his retirement in January 1913, but came back as player-manager in 1915 in the Rio Grande Association. The brothers, Roy and Kitty, played on the same team, Vernon, in the PCL in 1910 and 1912. Kitty managed three years in the minors (1912-13 and 1915) as well as in the California Winter League.

He and Kitty Bransfield are the only major league players remembered with the first name "Kitty", although Jim Kaat was sometimes called "Kitty Kaat". According to the book Baseball Nicknames, Brashear was nicknamed Kitty due to his resemblance to Bransfield, a contemporary in the senior circuit.
