Kirk Presley is the third cousin of Elvis Presley and the 1st round pick (8th overall) of the New York Mets in the 1993 amateur draft. The Mets signed him for a $900,000 bonus.

Presley began his career for the 1994 Pittsfield Mets, posting a 5-6, 3.80 ERA in 14 games, with 41 walks in 90 IP against 51 SO. He also pitched 2 games for the St. Lucie Mets, going 1-1 4.15 ERA in 9 1/3 IP with 6 walks and only 3 SO. Control problems followed Presley to the Capital City Bombers in 1995, as he was 1-2 5.14 ERA in 4 games with 13 walks and only 8 SO in 21 IP.

In 1996 Presley went back down to Pittsfield, where he managed only 5 games. He was 1-0 3.00 ERA with slightly better 10 walks and 14 K's in 18 IP. Presley went back up to the South Atlantic League in 1997 with Capital City and was 0-1 10.80 ERA in only 2 games. He did have 5 SO and o BB in 3 1/3 IP. Presley made one more attempt in 1998 with Capital City but appeared in only 3 games going 0-0 3.00 ERA with 9 SO and 4 BB in 6 IP.
