Kingsport Orioles

From BR Bullpen

When the Appalachian League was re-established in 1957 a team was placed in Kingsport, TN. This club was the worst in the class D circuit, going 21-49-1 for a .300 winning percentage, 27 and a half games out of first. They scored the fewest runs (377) and allowed the most (605). The season was most notable because it introduced pro baseball to the soon-to-be-legendary Steve Dalkowski. The wild lefty with the amazing fastball went 1-8 with an 8.13 ERA. He allowed just 22 hits in 62 innings and struck out 121 batters, but he also walked 129, issued 39 wild pitches and made 7 errors in just 20 tries. The next year, the Baltimore Orioles would switch affiliations to the Bluefield Orioles which still exists to this day.
