17 years after the Key West Conchs played part of 1952 there, Key West, FL was home to minor league baseball with the 1969 Key West Padres. The first minor league affiliate of the San Diego Padres, the Key West club went 67-63 under the guidance of Don Zimmer. They drew 42,829 fans, 5th in the 12-team Florida State League and tied for 5th in record. Outscoring their opponents 516-505, Key West had no All-Stars. Vic Albury (12-10, Sv, 2.32, 106 BB, 155 K in 186 IP) finished sixth in the league in ERA while OF Don Sheppard (.303/~.414/.432, 32 for 35 in SB, 10 triples, 85 R) led the league in runs and was among the leaders in OBP and triples. The team did not return the next year.
