Biographical Information[edit]

Kevin Weijgerste made his minor league debut in 2010.

Weijgerste played for the Netherlands in the 2008 World Junior Championship. He made his Hoofdklasse debut that year, going 1 for 5 for the Pioniers and making two errors in 6 total chances at shortstop. In 2009, he was the starting third baseman for Corendon Kinheim and hit .243/.285/.250 while fielding .869. He led the league's third basemen with 20 errors and had the lowest fielding percentage of any regular. In the 2009 European Junior Championship, he hit .381/.552/.429 with 6 runs in 6 games.

Weijgerste signed with the New York Mets in December 2009, along with Björn Hato, after being scouted by Lionel Chattelle. Used at first base for the DSL Mets 1, he debuted on May 31, going 0 for 2 with a walk. He was 0 for 14 with four walks after five games.
