Biographical Information[edit]
Relief pitcher Kevin Herget began his professional career in 2013.
He was taken by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 39th round of the 2013 amateur draft. With the State College Spikes in 2013, he went 7-0 with a 2.89 ERA in 14 games (eight starts), to tie for the New York-Penn League lead in wins. Between the Peoria Chiefs and Palm Beach Cardinals in 2014, Herget was 8-3 with a 2.72 ERA in 42 games (one start), striking out 94 batters in 76 innings. He began 2015 with Palm Beach.
He finally reached the majors late in the 2022 season with the Tampa Bay Rays. He was one of the players added by the Rays to the major league roster due to a combination of one pitcher being placed on the restricted list for being unvaccinated and unable to enter Canada, and a doubleheader on September 13th. he made his debut in the second game against the Toronto Blue Jays that day, giving up 2 runs in 1 2/3 innings as he closed out a 7-2 loss. He got out of the 7th inning, in which the Jays had taken a 5-2 lead, with no damage, but allowed two runs on two hits and a sacrifice fly in the 8th.
