Biographical Information

Kevin Andersh was a first-round draft pick who did not have a winning season in five years as a pro. He peaked at AA.

Andersh had set the UNM record with 17 career losses, yet still went 15th overall in the 1984 amateur draft, picked by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was the second left-handed pitcher picked that year, after Drew Hall and before Tom Glavine, Jamie Moyer and Terry Mulholland. The next year, Bucs GM Hardy Peterson made a better call, selecting Barry Bonds with his first-round pick. Kevin started his professional career with the Watertown Pirates, going 3-3 with a 3.75 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 36 innings. In 1985, he was 7-12 with a 3.43 ERA for the Macon Pirates and hit one home run, but walked 85 in 152 1/3 innings.

Returned to Macon in 1986, Andersh fared worse at 8-16, 4.64 with 87 walks in 143 2/3 innings. He led the South Atlantic League in losses. He still led Macon in both wins and strikeouts (123). He split 1987 between Macon (3-3, 3.31) and the Harrisburg Senators (0-1, 12.27, 10 H in 3 2/3 IP). After missing all of 1988 and had rotator cuff surgery, the southpaw ended his career with the 1989 Augusta Pirates, where he had a 5-5, 5.02 record.

Overall, Andersh had gone 26-40 with a 4.18 ERA in 84 minor league games. He later coached Volcano Vista High School.
