Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Keury De La Cruz has played in the Boston Red Sox minor league system since 2009. He was signed by scout Luciano Del Rosario on February 6, 2009.
Only 17 when he began his professional career, he played his first minor league season with the DSL Red Sox and was named the Red Sox Latin Program Player of the Year after hitting .259/.368/.390 with 13 stolen bases and 50 RBI in 67 games in 2009. In 2010, he led the Gulf Coast League in triples (7) and total bases (94), placed second in extra-base hits (23), was third in home runs (6) and runs scored (35) and was fourth in RBI (31) and slugging percentage (.475) for the GCL Red Sox. He was ranked the best player in the league by The Baseball Cube.
With the Lowell Spinners in 2011, he hit .263/.292/.390 with 15 stolen bases in 71 games. He was named a New York-Penn League Mid-Season All-Star, led the league in at-bats (300) and tied for second in triples (6) and third in hits (79). In 2012, he played for the Greenville Drive and Salem Red Sox, hitting .307/.350/.533 with 20 home runs, 87 RBI, 20 stolen bases, 37 doubles and 72 runs scored in 122 games. He was named a South Atlantic League Mid- and Post-Season All-Star and was a MiLB.com Organization All-Star. He led Red Sox minor leaguers in total bases (266), hits (153), triples (8) and RBI, was second in homers and fifth in batting average.
MLB.com named him the 15th-best Red Sox prospect entering the 2013 campaign. He hit .258/.297/.398 with 9 home runs, 89 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 133 games for the Salem Red Sox that year and was named to the Carolina League Post-Season All-Star team. Entering 2014, MLB.com ranked him the Red Sox 14th-best prospect. He began 2014 with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs.
