Biographical Information[edit]

Shortstop Keoni Cavaco was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 1st round of the 2019 amateur draft, with the 13th overall pick. He was coming out of Eastlake High School in Chula Vista, CA, and while he was born there, his family background is clearly Hawaian, as reflected by his full name.

He began his professional career in 2019 with the GCL Twins, where he hit .172 in 25 games. He had to sit out the 2020 season when the minor leagues were shut down by the Coronavirus pandemic but returned to action in 2021. He was sent to the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels in the Low-A Southeast and played 6o games there, interrupted by a rehabilitation assignment to the FCL Twins in early July. He did better in his second taste of pro ball, with a batting line of .233/.296/.302 and 57 runs scored, but it is fair to say that at that point, his glove was well ahead of his bat in terms of development - not that the season he was forced to skip had helped.
