Catcher Ken Thomas was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the first round, 24th overall, of the 1972 amateur draft. He struggled mightily and was out of professional baseball after the 1973 season.

He hit .140/.240/.171 with 1 home run and 14 RBI in 44 games for the Bluefield Orioles in 1972, striking out 36 times in 129 at-bats. In 1973, Thomas hit .156/.308/.195 with no home runs, 11 RBI and 33 Ks in 46 games between Bluefield and the Miami Orioles.
