Biographical Information[edit]

Ken Mauer played in the minor leagues from 1944 to 1945 and from 1947 to 1948, mostly in the Brooklyn Dodgers system. He began his pro career at 16 years old. Not a strong batsman, he hit .214 with 4 home runs and 122 hits in 571 hits. He did briefly reach Triple A, batting .190 in 6 games for the St. Paul Saints in 1947.

He was head coach at Macalester College in 1950 [1]. He also coached baseball at St. Paul Humboldt High School. He was elected to the Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2014.

His brother, John Mauer, played in the minor leagues. One great-nephew, Joe Mauer, was an All-Star and MVP in the majors; two others, Jake Mauer and Bill Mauer, played in the minors. One son, Ken Jr., is a referee in the National Basketball Association; another, Tom, officiates in the WNBA.
