Biographical information[edit]

Ken Adams is a former minor league baseball pitcher who played from 1986 to 1989 in the Kansas City Royals system.

Selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 18th round (465th overall) of the 1984 draft, Adams wound up in the Royals organization by way of an unknown transaction. The signing scout was Carl Blando.

He played his first year of professional baseball in 1986, with the Eugene Emeralds. He was perhaps the best starter on the team that year, going 4-2 with a 2.90 ERA in 15 games. He led the team's starters in ERA, and he led the entire team in games started and innings pitched. He was second on the team in strikeouts, with his 71 being beaten out by Gary Blouin's 79.

Adams played in only four games inn 1987, all for the Fort Myers Royals. He posted a 1-3 record with a 4.22 ERA. In 21 1/3 innings, he walked eight batters and struck out only five.

By 1988, Adams was being used primarily as a reliever. For the Baseball City Royals that year, he appeared in 29 games, three of which he started. He had lost any semblance of control following his injury-shortened 1987 season, walking 37 batters, throwing 10 wild pitches and striking out only 25 in 51 2/3 innings of work. His ERA was 3.66 and his record was 4-2.

1989 was his final year in professional baseball. Again playing for the Baseball City Royals, he made 20 appearances, posting a 7.81 ERA. In only 27 2/3 innings of work, he walked 45 batters, threw 21 wild pitches and struck out only 17. His record was 0-3.

Overall, Adams went 9-10 in his four years in professional baseball, posting an ERA of 4.03. He appeared in 68 games, started 26 of those and completed one of his starts. In 181 1/3 innings of work, he allowed 135 hits, 113 runs and 81 earned runs. He walked 132 batters and struck out 118, throwing 37 wild pitches.
