Biographical Information[edit]
The Baltimore Orioles drafted catcher Kelvin Pickering out of King High School in Tampa in the 35th round in 1999. They were hoping for lightning to strike twice: four years earlier, they had drafted Kelvin's older brother, Calvin Pickering, in the same round from the same school. Calvin had turned out to be a very promising power hitter, although he never put it all together in the big leagues.
Alas, Kelvin never advanced beyond rookie ball. He played in 64 games at that level from 1999 through 2001, hitting .189 with 3 homers and 10 RBIs. He was also tried at first base in 2000.
