Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Keiji Abe played for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in three seasons.
Abe was the first player to hit three homers in one Koshien Tournament, doing so in 1979. He played for Yamaha Hatsudoki in the industrial leagues after high school. The Carp took him in the 6th round of the 1983 NPB draft. In his first NPB at-bat, he homered off Hiromi Makihara as a pinch-hitter; he was only the 18th NPB player to go deep in his first at-bat. Things went downhill from there, as he was 0 for 4 with a walk the rest of 1984, spent a year entirely in the minors, was 1 for 12 with two walks in 1986 and went 0 for 1 in 1988 to end his career with a .111/.238/.278 batting line in 18 at-bats. He coached for the Carp from 1989-2010.
