Biographical Information[edit]
Kazuhiro Fujimoto pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years and won an ERA title.
Fujimoto was signed by the Nishitetsu Lions in 1967, but he only pitched 10 games combined with the big club in his first three seasons before being released by the Lions after the 1969 season. The Hiroshima Carp picked him up, and Fujimoto had a 3.46 ERA in 13 1/3 innings in 1970. The Yamaguchi native had his first, and only, productive year for the Carp in 1971. He was 10-6 with a 1.71 ERA, and won the Central League ERA title, .16 ahead of Katsuji Sakai. Fujimoto also completed a no-hitter against the Chunichi Dragons on August 19, becoming only the second Carp pitcher to complete this achievement (Yoshiro Sotokoba threw two no-hitters before him). His ERA rose to 6.75 in 1972, and he was removed from the rotation. Fujimoto bounced back as a reliever in 1973 as his ERA was 3.09 in 25 relief outings, but he then allowed 5 runs in just 3 2/3 innings in 1974. The Carp released him after the 1974 season, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Fujimoto was 10-10 with a 2.79 ERA, struck out 179 and pitched 248 innings in 8 years in the NPB.
