Biographical Information[edit]

Katsutoshi Miyadera caught in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Miyadera was signed by the Yomiuri Giants in 1963, and he spent his first three seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues, only having 38 at-bats combined with the big club. The Giants then traded him to the Nishitetsu Lions for Teruyuki Takakura, and he broke out in 1967. As their starting catcher, Miyadera hit .206/.254/.332 with a career-high 10 homers, and he was also selected into the 1967 NPB All-Star Game; he didn't got a single at-bat. He recorded a .230/.273/.374 batting line in 1968, but he slumped to .137/.154/.157 in 1969 and Kimiyasu Murakami took his spot.

The Tokyo native bounced back and took back the starting spot in 1970, hitting .224/.285/.331 in 120 games. He recorded a .232/.286/.368 batting line in 1971 and .211/.281/.430 in 1972. Miyadera was selected into the 1973 NPB All-Star Game, and he was 1-for-1 with a single against Yukiharu Shibuya in Game 3. He ended up hitting .221/.245/.320 in 1973. However, when prospect Toru Kusuki joined the team in 1972, Miyadera lost his spot and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Miyadera hit .215/.264/.333 with 353 hits and 42 homers in 11 seasons in the NPB.
