Biographical Information[edit]

Katsuhiro Nishiura has played in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.

Nishiura was drafted by the Nippon Ham Fighters in the fifth round of the 1992 NPB draft. He spent the first five seasons mainly in the NPB Farm Leagues, and only had 30 appearances combined with the big club. He broke out in 1998, when he blasted 17 homers in the first half of the season. He ended up hitting .245/.338/.435 with 20 homers and 18 steals. The Osaka native was expected to become the new cleanup hitter for the Fighters in 1999, but he struggled and only recorded a .235/.308/.321 batting line with 2 homers. He never had a starting spot again, only playing 115 more games with the big club in the next five seasons. Nishiura also represented Japan in the 2002 Asian Games; their DH and main cleanup hitter, he was 4 for 26 with two RBI as they won a Bronze. He announced his retirement after the 2005 season.

Overall, Nishiura had hit .235/.317/.397 with 35 homers in 10 seasons in NPB.
