Biographical Information[edit]

Missouri native Justin Stein spent seven active seasons in professional baseball from 1934 to 1940.

Justin was signed out of Saint Louis University by the St. Louis Cardinals during the 1934 season. He spent a little more than four seasons in the St. Louis minor league chain before being selected off waivers by the Philadelphia Phillies, making his big league debut on May 26, 1938. The 26-year-old infielder appeared in eleven games, hit .256 and was traded by the Phillies to the Cincinnati Reds for Buck Jordan on June 10, 1938.

After appearing in eleven games with the Reds he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles of the International League for Nolen Richardson on July 21, 1938. This ended Stein's major league run. He appeared in a total of 22 games with a .281 hitting average during his big league time.

Justin's best season in pro ball came in 1935 when he hit at a .301 clip in 118 games for the Bloomington Bloomers of the class B Three-I League. After his big league time, he spent two more seasons in pro ball, 1939 and 1940, both in the high minors. He left the game after playing for three clubs in 1940 with a .259 average in 98 games.

Justin Marion Stein appeared in 722 minor league games, hitting for a .262 average with 25 home runs.
