Biographical Information[edit]
Justin Orton was a second baseman at the University of British Columbia while working on his undergraduate degree in Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies. He graduated from UBC in 2018. While there he also coached at the University's indoor training facility where he was involved in many aspects of player development. Following graduation, Orton transitioned into a coaching role with the UBC Thunder youth program which competes in the BC Premier Baseball League.
The Pittsburgh Pirates hired Orton in March 2020 to serve as a development coach for one of their DSL Pirates teams before COVID-19 caused the minor league season to be cancelled. Orton served as the hitting coach for the DSL Pirates Black team in 2021 and was appointed "Integrated Baseball Performance Coach" (AKA development coach) for the Greensboro Grasshoppers in 2022-2023 and Altoona Curve in 2024.
