Biographical Information[edit]
Justin Novak played college ball at the University of Virginia from 2015-2018. He was primarily a third baseman, but also played some shortstop, second base, and catcher.
Novak joined the Seattle Mariners organization in 2019 to serve as an interpreter for Yusei Kikuchi. While there he helped the team with a variety of tasks, including working as a bullpen catcher. During the COVID-19 year of 2020 he worked at the Mariners spring training complex in Arizona as a bullpen catcher with pitchers rehabilitating injuries. In 2021 Novak served as a bullpen catcher for the Tacoma Rainiers. The limited catching he did at UVA proved to be rather valuable for his post-playing career.
The San Diego Padres hired Novak in 2022 to work as a major league coaching assistant which is often a jack-of-all-trades type of role. In 2023, he moved back to the Mariners as bullpen catcher, sharing duties with Fleming Baez.
