Biographical Information[edit]
Jun Heima has been an infielder for Toshiba in Japan's industrial leagues from 1998 through at least 2009. He played two years for the Japanese national team, appearing in the 1999 Asian Championship (in which Japan won Silver) and 1999 Intercontinental Cup (.231/.333/.385 as Japan's DH). He was 0 for 4 in the Bronze Medal game of the 1999 Intercontinental Cup but Japan still beat the USA to take a medal.
In the 2000 Olympics, Heima fielded .950 as Japan's starting second baseman but hit only .214/.313/.250. In the Bronze Medal game, he was 1 for 2 with a walk against Dae-sung Koo but his teammates managed little in a 3-1 loss to rival South Korea. On the mound for Japan was Daisuke Matsuzaka, who had gone to the same high school as Heima (but later on).
