Biographical Information

Julio Raudez is a second-generation Nicaraguan baseball ace, the son of Diego Raudez. Julio Raudez was 1-0 in the 1997 Intercontinental Cup, fanning 9 in 7 shutout innings. He was on the Nicaraguan team that won Silver at the 1997 Central American Games. He went 1-1 in the 1998 Baseball World Cup but his 8.16 ERA was second-highest on Nicaragua; on the other hand, he also fanned 17 in 14 1/3 innings. He helped Nicaragua win Silver in the 1998 Central American and Caribbean Games. He gave up two runs in five innings in the 1999 Pan American Games, losing to Mexico.

Raudez was rocked in the 2001 Baseball World Cup, giving up six runs on five hits and five walks in two innings and taking a loss. He had Nicaragua's highest ERA. He played for Nicaragua in the 2002 Central American and Caribbean Games. In the 2005 Baseball World Cup, Raudez was 1-1 with a 2.53 ERA, 4th on Nicaragua behind Wilton Lopez, Oswaldo Mairena and Olman Rostrán. He outdueled Pavel Budský in a 1-0 win over the Czech Republic but lost to Japan.

Raudez helped Nicaragua win Gold in the 2006 Central American Games, pitching a two-hitter against Honduras and then tossing a shutout five innings in the Gold Medal Game against Guatemala; Lopez closed it out. He allowed three runs in 7 innings in the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games, getting no decision. Raudez was 1-1 with a 1.13 ERA in the 2006 COPABE Olympic qualifiers. In the 2007 Pan American Games, Julio lost a 1-0 duel to Claudio Yamada of Brazil, going 8 innings in the defeat.
