Biographical Information

On July 31, 2007, Julio Mateo was sent to the Philadelphia Phillies by the Seattle Mariners for Jesus Merchan. Mateo had been suspended by the Mariners on May 5th for allegedly assaulting his wife and had not pitched for the team after that. On July 27th, Mateo ran into more legal trouble, being arrested on suspicion of forgery when police found counterfeit $100 bills in his hotel room. He never again played in the majors.
