Juan Salmeron played for the Spanish national team a number of times.

Salmeron helped Spain take Bronze at the 1987 European Championship. In the 1988 Baseball World Cup, he hit .136/.240/.318 with Spain's only home run of the tourney. He had 9 strikeouts in 22 at-bats. He had two errors in five games at first and two in five games at catcher, where he also had three passed balls and allowed 19 steals in 23 attempts.

Salmeron was with Spain when they won Bronze at both the 1989 European Championship and 1991 European Championship. In the 1992 Olympics, he went 3 for 15 with a double for the hosts and allowed six steals in six tries. In Spain's 7-6 upset of the Puerto Rican national team, he hit 6th and went 1 for 4 with a run in Spain's only Olympic win.

In the Division Honor, he played for CB Viladecans, the powerhouse of the era.
