Biographical Information[edit]

Juan Delgadillo led the Mexican League in ERA in 2008.

Delgadillo debuted in 2003 with the Yucatan Lions, going 6-6 with a 4.11 ERA. He fell to 1-4, 6.05 in 2004. In 2005, he moved to his hometown Olmecas de Tabasco, where he was 9-5 with a 4.09 ERA, 12th in the Mexican League. During 2006, Juan continued his roller-coaster career, fading to 4-12, 6.33 and led the Liga in losses. In 2007, he switched to the Tigres de Quintana Roo and was 5-4 with a 4.23 ERA. He pitched for the Mexican national team in the 2007 Baseball World Cup and allowed 7 runs in 1 2/3 IP in a loss to Japan. He recovered to beat Spain as well as the host, Taiwan in the 7th/8th place game, to finish 2-1 with a 5.68 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 12 1/3 IP. He led Mexico in wins and strikeouts.

Delgadillo had a huge year in 2008, now with the Vaqueros Laguna, going 10-4 with a 2.29 ERA. He allowed only 3 home runs in 129 2/3 IP and led the Mexican League in ERA, .12 ahead of long-time star Francisco Campos. Delgadillo tied for 9th in the League in wins as well. Juan did not win Pitcher of the Year honors as those went to Nerio Rodriguez, a former major leaguer. Delgadillo was 5-2 with a 2.01 ERA in the winter for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo.

Delgadillo went 6-4 with a 2.92 ERA in the 2009 Mexican League. That winter, he was fell to 4-5, 4.30 for the Naranjeros. He was at his best when it counted; in game 7 of the Mexican Pacific League finals, he tossed 7 2/3 shutout innings against the Mazatlan Deer to beat Walter Silva 1-0 and give his club the title.
