Biographical Information[edit]

"Jot Goar was largely responsible (for the win). In the thick wads of muscle that dwells in layers upon his stout right arm lingered the cunning of a Breitenstein and the speed of a Rusie." - from an article in the Kansas City Journal, August 21, 1897, about a game that Goar and Indianapolis won 7-0

Jot Goar is famous for giving up six hits in an inning (three triples, one double, and two singles) without a single run scoring. It happened in the Indiana State League in 1890. He was not very successful during his brief stays in the majors, but went 25-9 for Indianapolis in 1897.

In 1910 it was reported that his general store in New Lisbon, IN burned down. The article mentioned he had previously had misfortune when he was shot in a hunting accident a couple years before.

" . . . a young man named Goar is the object of much inquiry. It is said that five clubs have been writing the local club people asking if they would put a price on his services. . . If Pittsburg sells Goar it will be for a stiff price. He is worth a round sum." - Sporting Life of December 19, 1896
