He was then taken by the Atlanta Braves in the 40th round of the 2011 amateur draft, one pick after utilityman Sam Travis and a couple ahead of hurler Kyle Barraclough, but again, he didn't sign. He finally inked a deal after being taken by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 21st round of the 2012 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Ralph Garr, Jr. He spent two years in the Cardinals system, hitting .181/.257/.268 in 49 games for the GCL Cardinals.
