Jose Centeno was a minor league outfielder-first baseman. He debuted in 1973, hitting .178/.247/.230 for the Bristol Tigers. The next year, he batted .272/.346/.336 with the Ogden Spikers. He had 14 sacrifice hits, tying Marshall Edwards for the Pioneer League lead. Though he stole only 14 bases, he was caught 11 times, tying Edwards and Julio Cruz for the most. His 7 outfield assists were tied for third but his 9 outfield errors were second-worst. In 1975, Jose batted .229/.266/.290 for the Clinton Pilots. He resurfaced in 1979 with the Tampico Lightermen, batting .288/.371/.374 in 43 games. In 32 games for the 1980 Toluca Trouts, he was at .276/.333/.368.
