Biographical Information[edit]

Jose Casilla began his professional career in 2006. He reached Triple A for the first time in 2016.

Casilla was signed by scout Pablo Peguero of the San Francisco Giants. Pitching for the DSL Giants he went 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA in two starts, striking out 11 batters in nine innings. In 2007, again with the DSL Giants, Casilla went 6-3 with a 3.76 ERA in 16 games (14 starts). He moved stateside in 2008, pitching for the AZL Giants and Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, going a combined 3-1 with a 1.73 ERA in eight games (five starts).

For the 2009 season, Casilla converted to relief pitching full-time. Again with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, Casilla went 1-1 with a 1.67 ERA in in 25 relief appearances, saving 12 games. In 2010, he pitched for the Augusta Greenjackets and went 4-1 with a 1.16 ERA, collecting saves in 14 of his 46 relief appearances. With the San Jose Giants in 2011, he was 0-4 with a 9.49 ERA in 11 games. He didn't pitch in 2012. Back in 2013, he was 3-7 with a 3.22 mark in 43 games for San Jose. He pitched for the Richmond Flying Squirrels in 2014 and went 4-1 with a 3.97 ERA in 41 games. He began 2015 back with Richmond and went 4-5 with a 1.44 ERA in 47 games. He had another solid season in 2016, going 2-3 with a 3.59 ERA in 35 games between the Flying Squirrels and Sacramento River Cats. He returned stateside with the independent San Rafael Pacifics of the Pacific Association in 2018, posting a 2.45 mark with 16 saves in 32 relief appearances. He had 35 strikeouts in 33 innings.

He also played for the Leones del Escogido of the Dominican Winter League from 2014-15 to 2016-17.

Overall, he went 33-31 with a 2.94 ERA in 332 games (23 starts) at all levels. In 499 2/3 innings, he allowed 464 hits and 146 walks, while striking out 373 batters.

His brother is Santiago Casilla.
