Biographical Information

Jose Alvarez was signed as an 8th round pick in the 1978 amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves and scout Bob Mavis. He pitched for the Braves in 1981 and 1982 but bounced around in the minor leagues for 6 seasons before his next big league appearance in 1988. He had two good seasons on generally bad Braves teams in 1988 and 1989. His ERA both seasons was under 3. He was credited with his first win on May 24, 1988 against the Chicago Cubs.
