Jose Ascanio was signed by scout Rolando Petit for the Atlanta Braves in 2001. He made his pro debut for the DSL Braves 2 the next summer. In 43 big league appearances over four seasons, he pitched to a 5.28 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 46 innings.
