Biographical Information

Joo-hwan Choi has been an infielder in the Korea Baseball Organization. He was born exactly one year after another KBO infielder named J. Choi, Jung Choi.

Choi appeared for South Korea in the 2005 Asian Junior Championship. The Doosan Bears picked him in the 6th round of the 2006 KBO draft, the 46th overall selection. He was 0 for 3 for Doosan in 2006, 0 for 3 in 2007, 4 for 15 with 2 doubles and a triple in 2008 and 0 for 10 in 2009. Having begun his career 4 for 31, he would not play for them for two years while serving out his military commitment.

Choi did appear for the South Korean national team while in the military. He hit .259/.344/.444 as South Korea's starting shortstop in the 2010 Intercontinental Cup, with no errors in 29 total chances. He drove in their only run in a 2-1 loss to Japan in the 5th/6th place game. In the 2011 Baseball World Cup, he batted .359/.375/.487 with 8 RBI in 10 games. Starting at 2B for Korea, he had 48 chances with no errors. Despite batting leadoff for his country, he led the team in RBI. In the 5th/6th place game, he was 2 for 4 with a steal and 2 RBI but Korea dropped a 3-2 game to Australia. Choi did not have a serious chance at All-Star honors in the event, as the USA's Joe Thurston had far better numbers.
