Biographical Information

Jon Skaggs spent four years pitching at Rice University where he went a combined 22-6. His best year was as a Junior in 2000. Skaggs went 12-2 with a 3.08 ERA. The Baltimore Orioles drafted him in the 4th round of the 2000 amateur draft but he choose to remain in school. He was named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Star team in 2001 after going 9-3 with 2.51 ERA. The New York Yankees then drafted him in the 1st round, 42nd overall, in the 2001 draft.

After appearing in only game for the Staten Island Yankees in 2001, he suffered an injury and missed the entire 2002 season. After a rough 2003 with the Battle Creek Yankees, Skaggs pitched well for the 2004 Tampa Yankees going 13-9 with a 3.87 ERA and 116 strikeouts. In 2005, he split the year between Tampa and the Trenton Thunder but struggled to a 3-10 mark with an ERA over 6. That spelled the end for Skaggs' Yankee career as he left the team and signed with the Houston Astros organization. With the AA Corpus Christi Hooks in 2006, he was moved to the bullpen, but still struggled with a 5.93 ERA. In 2007 he went to spring training with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, but was released as camp broke, ending his professional career.
