Biographical Information[edit]
Johnny Bucha appeared in 84 big league games in three non-consecutive seasons. Getting the call originally with the 1948 and 1950 St. Louis Cardinals, he logged his most substantial time with the 1953 Detroit Tigers as a Rule 5 pick. In 60 games in the Motor City, he batted .222 with his lone big league home run, a solo shot against Harry Byrd of the soon to be extinct Philadelphia Athletics, on September 9. He had served in the U.S. Navy, discharged and able to play with the Columbus Red Birds of the American Association for 1945, also seeing time with the Rochester Red Wings in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
