Biographical Information

The son of Hall-of-Famer Ted Williams, John Henry Williams tried out for the baseball team at Bates College but was cut before the season. While attending the University of Maine, Williams wanted to try out for the baseball team but, when sent to the junior varsity field instead of the varsity field, walked away.

Williams went 0 for 6 with a strikeout in 2002 for the GCL Red Sox. Given his age, it clearly was more of a publicity stunt than a serious signing. Williams became embroiled in controversy over the handling of Ted's business and person and was let go.

The Schaumburg Flyers signed John Henry, as independent league teams love publicity stunts, but he failed to make the club, and wound up with the Selma Cloverleafs and Baton Rouge River Bats of the Southeastern League, hitting a combined .172 with two RBI. He died on March 6, 2004 from leukemia.
