Baton Rouge River Bats

The Baton Rouge River Bats played in Baton Rouge, LA in 2002-2003 as part of the Southeastern League. They were 39-29 the first year, finishing second, one game behind the Pensacola Pelicans. They were 38-31 to finished second in the regular season in 2003, but beat Pensacola 3 games to 1 to take the finals. That season, they drew 2,608 fans and were managed by Larry Keller, L.J. Dupuy and Ken Parker during the year.

The team had several SEL All-Stars in 2003 with 1B Josey Shannon (.313, .483 SLG), SS Jerson Perez (.302, 16 SB, 7 3B), 3B Kevin Perret (.291, .467 SLG), UT Jason Williams (a league-best .346) and P Corey Avrard (9-2, 1.73) and Mike Meyer (10-2, a league-best 1.52). Meyer was 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA in the playoffs. Other players included John Henry Williams, Hector Roa and Steve Bourgeois.
