Biographical Information[edit]
John Whited was a minor league shortstop from 1957 to 1960 in the farm systems of the Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Senators. He also pitched in three games.
From 1961 to 1977, he was the manager of his alma mater, Dobyns-Bennett High School, where he compiled a 294-86 record. He then joined the staff of East Tennessee State University as an assistant coach from 1978 to 1981. From 1982 to 1987, he managed the University of Tennessee nine where he led the Volunteers to three consecutive SEC playoffs and compiled a record of 145-109.
