Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher John Stanford enlisted in the Air Force after high school, where he gained acclaim as a softball and baseball pitcher. [2]. He then enrolled at Middle Tennessee State College where he was a freshman in 1959 [3]. After graduation he spent two seasons pitching in the lower rungs of the Washington Senators' chain in 1962-1963.

Stanford was then a coach at Shelbyville Central High School and Motlow Community College. He the returned to Middle Tennessee State, where he was head caoch of the baseball team from 1974 to 1987, compiling a 402-272-4 record. The school won Ohio Valley Conference tournament titles 4 times and he led the Blue Raiders to the College World Series Regionals 4 times. He was then athletics director at Middle Tennessee State from 1987 to 1994.
