Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder John Ruettiger has played in the Baltimore Orioles minor league system since 2011 (through 2014).

He was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 35th round of the 2008 amateur draft, but opted not to sign a contract. He did sign after being taken by the Orioles in the 8th round of the 2011 amateur draft. His signing bonus was $160,000.

He performed well from the get-go, hitting .300/.347/.378 in 22 games between the GCL Orioles and Delmarva Shorebirds in 2011. In 2012, he swiped 28 bases and posted a .372 on-base percentage for the Shorebirds and Frederick Keys and was named a MiLB.com Organization All-Star. In 2013, he stole 44 bases for the Keys and Bowie Baysox. He began 2014 with Bowie.

His uncle is Dan "Rudy" Ruettiger, a University of Notre Dame football player who inspired the film, Rudy.
