John Ramsden
- Throws Right
- Born September 17, 1957
Biographical Information[edit]
John Ramsden was a pitcher for the Australian national team in the 1978 Amateur World Series, their first Amateur World Series. In nine innings over three relief outings, he gave up 12 hits, 3 walks and 5 runs (3 earned) while fanning 4. He was 3rd on the staff in ERA behind Alan Albury and Brian Wonnacott. He was the team's youngest player, almost a full year behind Wonnacott. [1] In the 1981 Claxton Shield, he was hit in the eye by a throw, ending his baseball career as he suffered vision problems. [2] Australia later mandated helmets for all runners and hitters in part due to this incident. [3] The loss of baseball forced Ramsden to rethink his life and how he had gone astray from his religion; returning to those beliefs, he later became a pastor. [4]
