Biographical Information[edit]
Brian Wonnacott was the ace of the first Australian national team in an Amateur World Series. He was 1-3 with a 2.84 ERA for them in the 1978 Amateur World Series; the rest of the staff had a 1-5, 4.92 record. He led the team in games pitched (4, tied with Ray Michell), innings (25 1/3, 9 more than Michell), wins (tied with Alan Albury) and strikeouts (16, 5 more than Michell). His 2.84 ERA was second on the staff, .46 behind Albury. For the tourney as a whole, he tied Keith Van De Keere and Armando Gaxiola for the most losses; he was 4th in IP (after Dong-won Choi, Shigekazu Mori and Si-jin Kim).
He won the Helms Award for the 1979 Claxton Shield. He also pitched for Australia in the 1980 Amateur World Series. He was on Victoria's Claxton Shield Diamond Anniversary Team, joining Peter Moylan and Graeme Lloyd among others on the staff.
