Biographical Information[edit]

John Poff played for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1979 and the Milwaukee Brewers in 1980.

He was three years younger than teammate Mike Schmidt on the Phillies and four years older than teammate Paul Molitor on the Brewers

Primarily an outfielder, he had a higher batting average with the Brewers than two of the regular outfielders, Gorman Thomas and Sixto Lezcano. The third regular outfielder, Ben Oglivie, hit over .300.

Poff played three seasons at Oklahoma City, hitting around .300 each year and slugging 20 home runs in each of 1978 and 1979.

After baseball, he became a writer, contributing regularly to Elysian Fields Quarterly, among other publications.
