The Detroit Tigers drafted catcher John Murrian in the 9th round of the 2009 amateur draft. He played in the Tigers minor league system from 2009-2013 and reached as high as AAA.
After his playing career ended, Murrian served as a Tigers' bullpen catcher from 2014-2018. In 2019 he transitioned to a hitting coach role with the GCL Tigers West. The Tigers promoted Murrian to the West Michigan Whitecaps for 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused the minor league season to be cancelled. In 2022 he was the hitting coach for the Erie SeaWolves.
