Biographical Information[edit]

John McPherson, who was from Easton, PA, pitched for both the Philadelphia teams in the American League and National League.

On July 12, 1901, he matched up against Cy Young.

In the minors he pitched for teams such as Milwaukee, Newark and Toronto.

A SABR article [1] chose him as performing one of the most unlikely pitching performances of all time. In spite of a 1-13 major league record, he got his only win at age 35 by pitching a 13 inning shutout.
