Biographical Information[edit]
John McMullin, who was born and died in Philadelphia, PA, played for the amateur Philadelphia Athletics as early as 1869. He was in the National Association from 1871 to 1875, the last three years with Philadelphia teams.
He was a pitcher in 1871 but thereafter was primarily an outfielder. His batting average in 1874 was fifth in the league.
One source claims he had 10 wild pitches in one inning in 1871. 1871
He umpired one game in the National Association in 1874 and while he never played in the National League, he was an umpire in three games during its inaugural season in 1876.
He died before he was 35.
