Biography[edit]
John McKelvey was the second-to-last surviving National Association player, living to the age of 96. He was the starting rightfielder for the 1875 New Haven Elm Citys of the 1875 National Association.
McKelvey was born in Rochester, NY and played ball in that city before coming to the 1875 National Association. In 1876 he again played for a team in Rochester and in 1877 he umpired at least one minor league game. He died in 1944 in Rochester.
