Biographical Information[edit]

Left-hander John McGillen spent two active seasons in professional baseball in 1944 and 1945. John was with the Philadelphia Athletics from April 20 to April 29 in 1944. He appeared in two games with no decisions.

John spent the remainder of the 1944 season with the Lancaster Red Roses of the Interstate League, winning ten and losing eleven with a 5.20 ERA in 30 appearances. He finished out his minor league career in 1945 with the Milwaukee Brewers of the American Association with a 1-1 record and a 3.66 ERA while pitching 32 innings in 12 games.

This finished John's minor league career with a 11-12 record with a 4.95 ERA in 42 games.

After baseball, John was a salesman for Wilco Plumbing and Heating Supply Company in Wilmington, DE, retiring in 1982. John Joseph McGillen died from thyroid cancer on August 11, 1987. He was seventy years of age.
