- Born 1955
Biographical Information[edit]
John McArdle was an amateur umpire who filled in for part of one major league game in 2004. On July 23rd that year, the Chicago Cubs were scheduled to play the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA, but the umpiring crew, apart from home plate umpire Darren Spagnardi did not make it on time for the start of the game. Three fill-in umpires were brought in to help out, with McArdle working at third base. The regular umpires made it to the ballpark in the 2nd inning, with Mike DiMuro taking over at third, and that ended McArdle's brief experience as a major league ump.
