Biographical Information[edit]
The Puerto Rican-Hawaiian John Matias (all four of his grandparents left Puerto Rico early in the 20th century) played 58 games for the Chicago White Sox in 1970.
After his playing career, he was a longtime coach at Pearl City High School and Damien Memorial School.
He is the uncle of Joe DeSa. Younger brother Robert Matias played minor league baseball in 1963-1964.
