Biographical Information[edit]
John Kelly pitched seven years, two in organized baseball (1948-1949) and five in the independent ManDak League and Minnesota League. He pitched with the Minot Mallards in 1952 and 1953 and Granum in 1954. He was featured in a 2000 piece on the 1950 Minnesota champion Fergus Falls Red Sox. He was a product of Long Island, New York.
After he left the Navy, he played in the Class C West Texas-New Mexico League and in the Canadian-American League. Later he was employed by the city water and light department. Kelly, a lefthander, was the top pitcher during the summer of 1950, compiling an amazing record of 22-2 and pitching 195 innings. He had an ERA of 1.62, struck out 207 batters and threw 8 shutouts!
